MATCHBOX Lamborghini Countach custom The Matchbox No. 27 Lamborghini Countach is one of the most recognisable supercar castings produced by Matchbox. Introduced in 1973 and remaining in the range until 1981, it appeared in a wide variety of combinations of body colours, interior colours, windscreen tints, and base colours. Interestingly, the casting is not based on a production Countach. Instead, it more closely represents the original Lamborghini Countach LP500 prototype unveiled at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, the LP500 drew upon the wedge-shaped styling themes he had explored in earlier projects such as the Alfa Romeo Carabo and Lancia Stratos Zero. Although the prototype itself never entered production and was later destroyed during crash testing, its design formed the basis of the Countach line that Lamborghini produced from 1974 until 1990. In this video, I take an untidy 'Streakers' version of the model and convert it to match the LP500 prototype as it appeared at Geneva in 1971. The body is refinished in the prototype's distinctive yellow and the engine bay is detailed to add some extra realism. To complete the look, I fit a set of Porsche Gotti Style wheels and tone down the orange-tinted glazing using headlight tint film. The goal is not to recreate a production Countach, but to produce a miniature version of the original LP500 concept that inspired one of Lamborghini's most famous models.
