Los Valois | 1ra parte - Guerra de los Cien Años
The French Valois dynasty is the family that led the transition between medieval and modern France. They were the direct successors of the Capetians and reigned from the early 14th century until the end of the 16th century. Their early years were far from easy, as they had to survive the Hundred Years' War against England and the Black Death. The war went very badly for the Valois, but they managed to emerge victorious, thanks in part to a young woman from Orléans named Joan of Arc, who ignited the spirit of French resistance to expel the English. During the 16th century, the Valois were the great counterweight to the Habsburgs, but they died out amidst the Wars of Religion, as the last king, Henry III, flirted so much with the Protestants that he ended up being assassinated by a Catholic fanatic. Henry had no children, so the crown of France passed to the Bourbon family. Today on Storiopolis we're going to learn about the Valois, the dynasty that stood up to the Habsburgs but couldn't survive the Wars of Religion. #France #History #JoanOfArc #MiddleAges
