Each episode focuses on a specific election year in Brazil. The first addresses the Brazilian political landscape in 1989 (PT vs. PRN - Christian Labor Party). The 1989 presidential election had two rounds. That year, even presenter Silvio Santos ran for president, although his candidacy was ultimately rejected. The most prominent candidates were Lula, Fernando Collor de Melo, and Leonel Brizola. The image of Lula wearing red and leading Brazil was unpopular because the socialist regime was being defeated in Europe. It was also in 1989 that the Berlin Wall fell. Fernando Collor, in turn, gained popularity and became known as a "hunter of maharajas." He made it to the runoff election and won. He was the first president elected by direct vote since Jânio Quadros. Watch the episode to understand the direct elections after the end of the military regime. Understand the union agenda and the PC Scheme. Recall the accusations made against both Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Fernando Collor de Melo. Elected, Collor surprised everyone. He froze the population's money. On March 16, 1990, he announced that amounts deposited in banks over 50,000 cruzados would be withheld. Lula began to reorganize the left and, together with Fidel Castro, founded the São Paulo Forum. It brought together socialist parties, revolutionary movements, and terrorist groups against the established governments on the continent. In 1992, the PC Scheme (PC Farias) was exposed. The opposition called for Fernando Collor's impeachment. He resigned beforehand to avoid losing his rights. In 1996, PC Farias was shot dead in his home. The first Brazilian president elected by direct vote in 20 years was the first Latin American to be impeached.
