Cum a supraviețuit ROMA propriilor împărați
The fourth and final episode of our series on the history of Rome covers one of the most fascinating centuries and a half of ancient history—from the chaos that followed Nero's death to an edict that changed the world forever. We follow the Flavian dynasty: Vespasian, the man without imperial lineage who rebuilt a depleted empire; Titus, who managed the catastrophe of Vesuvius; and Domitian, whose tyranny revealed the fragility of a system built on sham. We then follow the era of the "good emperors"—Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius—and dismantle the comfortable myth that posterity has built around them. We focus on real life in the Empire: extreme inequality, epidemics, labor, slavery, and the fifty million people that history usually forgets. We follow Pliny the Younger in Bithynia and the first mention of Christians in non-Christian literature. And we come, through Commodus and Severus, to Caracalla—the man who, in 212 AD, granted Roman citizenship to all free men in the Empire, completing a project begun by Romulus nearly a thousand years earlier.
