"Misioneros del temporal" (México)

The documentary video "Missionaries of the Rain, Guardians of the Rain in Eastern Morelos" tells the story of a group of farmers who perform rainmaking rituals in the municipalities of Tetela del Volcán, Hueyapan, and Ocuituco. In the central highlands of Mexico, on the slopes of the Popocatépetl volcano, a group of farmers from Morelos has taken on the mission of working for the rainy season and protecting the sacred sites of their region from the forces that disturb them and cause imbalances in the climate and nature. They believe that without this ritual work, inherited from their ancestors, rain and food could become scarce for the entire world. This production by Mexican filmmaker Jimena L. Paz was part of the "Missionaries of the Rainy Season" documentary project, an initiative funded by CRESPIAL through its 2017-2018 call for photo and video projects for the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
