Qui était Cicéron ? avec Charles Guérin
Make a donation and receive a gift: http://don.storiavoce.com/ For a long time, Cicero appeared to us as a disembodied philosopher, removed from any political contingency. In reality, Cicero was also a man of action, an exceptional lawyer, and a politician, while Rome was plunged into civil war in the 1st century BC. The two are inseparable: Cicero acted as a philosopher, and he philosophized as a man of action. Fighting to protect the Roman Republic, he promoted the culture of debate by combining rhetoric and wisdom, even at the cost of his life. Far from a moralistic or virtuous conception of politics, he advocated a return to justice, a love of reason, and institutions. This stance makes his message profoundly universal. Guest: Charles Guérin is a former student of the ENS and an honorary member of the Institut universitaire de France. A professor at the Sorbonne, he conducts research on the intellectual, judicial, and political practices of classical Rome. He has recently published "Cicero. A Philosopher in Politics" (111 pages, €11.90) with Calype. He is also the author of "The Voice of Truth. Witness and Testimony in the Roman Courts of the 1st Century BC" (Belles Lettres, 432 pages, €27.50). *** Facebook: / histoireetcivilisationsmag Instagram: / histoireetcivilisations Twitter: / storiavoce
