According to the current state of the investigation, a 50-year-old Polish driver was traveling in the right lane of the A2 in a truck. Near the Wüstenforst rest area, he apparently noticed the end of the traffic jam too late and crashed into a stationary truck almost without braking. Due to the force of the impact, it was pushed into another truck. The 50-year-old driver and his 31-year-old Polish passenger were trapped in the cab and had to be freed by firefighters. However, it was too late for the passenger; he succumbed to his severe injuries at the scene of the accident. The driver was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. The drivers of the two other trucks involved, aged 54 and 55, were uninjured. The resulting property damage is estimated at a high five-figure sum in euros.
