What is Modern Philosophy? The answer is not simple. The philosophers classified as modern introduced not only a way of thinking and seeing reality—they multiplied perspectives on man, the world, knowledge, and God. These views are extremely disparate: humanist thinkers, for example, placed man at the center of attention, while the new physical science asserted that man does not possess a privileged position in the cosmos. Modern Philosophy promoted numerous debates in practically all areas: rationalism vs. empiricism, absolutism vs. liberalism, skepticism vs. foundationalism, among many other confrontations. Modernity was the era of total questioning and widespread revolution.
