The Plants of Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park: A CNPS-OC and UCI Herbarium Project

Robert Allen, Rebecca Crowe (UCI), Fred Roberts Jr, Dr. Michael Simpson (SDSU), and Ron Vanderhoff (OCCNPS Plant Science) will present an overview and highlights of our multi-year effort to produce a comprehensive checklist of all the vascular plants of Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park. When complete, the checklist will be supported by full documentation from herbarium vouchers, as well as iNaturalist and CalFlora observations. Learn about the over 500 plant species at this incredible 2,500 acre park nestled in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. You will also learn how YOU can assist with this and other important research! This OC Parks Checklist Project is a collaboration of the UC Irvine Herbarium and Orange County CNPS. The Whiting Ranch project will continue in 2024, and currently includes nearly 500 visits over the past 16 months and nearly 5,000 unique records, greatly expanding our botanical knowledge.
