The 3 phases of Bayon building

Bayon temple was built at least by three monarques: Jayavarman VII, his son Indravarman II and Jayavarman VIII. In summary, the famous king Jayavarman VII had built just the central part with its cruciform compound and the four gates at the principal direction. King Jayavarman VII died by the old age around 96 years old. His son, King successor Indravarman II continued to sculpt the daily live of his parent named the royal triad: King Jayavarman VII, queen Jayarajadevi and queen Indradevi as well. At the end, King Jayavarman VII had changed the concept so ordered to carve the Shivaism scenes on the second level. Our conclusion is that the change of religion made changed the concept of origin sculpture master-plan.
