Sonata in D minor, HWV367a - Handel - Frank, Dippenaar - Cape Town Baroque Orchestra
Joshua Frank (recorder) Erik Dippenaar (spinet) At home with the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra - Episode 2 Members of the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra explore repertoire that would have been played and sung at home. For the second episode in this series, Joshua Frank (recorder) plays two movements from a sonata by George Frideric Handel. The lively music publishing scene in London during the first half of the 18th century encouraged music making at home through the availability of more affordable editions. The Sonata in D minor was published several times during Handel’s lifetime. For this recording, we used a copy of an 18th-century spinet, an instrument that would have typically been found in homes rather than larger concert spaces. www.ctbaroque.co.za Recorded in the home of Cape Town based harpsichord and organ builder, William Selway Robson. Spinet: copy of a 1760’s original by Haxby (William Selway Robson, 1998) Recorder: after J. Denner (Ralf Ehlert Blockflötenbau, 2015) Recording engineer: Gerhard Roux Video production: Wyrd Films Support the work of the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra by donating.
