Can Perfect Pitch Survive Baroque Tuning? My experiment with A=415hz Harpsichord Continuo
I tried overcoming what I consider to be perfect pitch's "greatest weakness" - baroque pitch, also known as tuning to A = 415 hz, since everything feels "off" by a semitone. (If you have a friend with perfect pitch, you can make their brain implode by showing them a score while playing the audio in baroque pitch!) I also talk about that time my perfect pitch "shifted" and the effects of "losing" it by having it change, so it's an interesting topic I don't see talked about a lot. All this happened while I was learning basso continuo (a style of playing with figured bass) on the harpsichord, so this was kind of a double whammy on top of being dunked on by baroque A = 415hz pitch. It was a very interesting journey and I hope my experience here will be interesting to those who are either interested in this issue or have similar experiences! 0:00 Intro - What is Perfect Pitch? 3:02 Part 1 - The First Week 4:51 Part 2 - Digital Piano 7:56 Part 3 - More Desperate Attempts 9:16 Part 4 - "Losing" Perfect Pitch 12:39 Part 5 - The "Shift" 14:24 Part 6 - Relative Pitch 16:27 Part 7 - The Exam(s) The Adam Neely video on Perfect Pitch I was referencing: • Why you DON'T want Perfect Pitch Social Media: / nicholasmamusic Website: https://www.nicholasmamusic.com/ #perfectpitch #perfectpitchchallenge #absolutepitch
