Working towards strong health on Homelands

Where does sickness really begin? This video looks upstream to understand the true causes of health. In this video, Stewart shares an important perspective on Yolŋu health using the story of a river. Rather than focusing only on the “debris at the bottom” (Acute Care) he encourages us to look upstream, to better understand where sickness begins and how it can be prevented. As an introduction to the Marthakal Healthy Homelands Education series, this video provides insight into the current state of Yolŋu health across the Marthakal Homelands. It highlights the importance of shifting towards a more holistic, long-term approach to health and wellbeing This series has been developed with a vision of supporting stronger, healthier Homelands for Yolŋu people in East Arnhem Land, by sharing accessible health information for community, while also helping others better understand the broader context of Yolŋu health Created by BARK Communications in collaboration with Marthakal Homelands and Resource Centre Aboriginal Corporation. Developed by Clara Solly-Slade, Max Brading, Stuart Yiwarr McGrath, Marcus Mungul Lacy, and the Marthakal Homelands Health Service team. Translation by Yurranydjil Dhurrkay and Brenda Muthamuluwuy.
