President Museveni Officially Declared Winner In The 2026 Presidential Elections | 18th Jan 2026
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has formally received the official declaration confirming his re-election as President of the Republic of Uganda, committing to accelerated economic growth, poverty eradication, unity, and disciplined leadership in the new term. The declaration was presented by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) at the President’s country home in Rwakitura, following the conclusion of the presidential elections. According to provisional figures from the Electoral Commission, President Museveni secured over seven million votes nationwide. In his acceptance address, President Museveni expressed gratitude to God, the First Lady Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, and all Ugandans who supported the NRM. He acknowledged the role played by party members, national institutions, the armed forces, religious leaders, cultural leaders, and citizens in ensuring a peaceful electoral process. The President reflected on voter participation, noting that many NRM supporters did not turn up to vote and emphasizing the need for introspection and renewed grassroots mobilization. He reaffirmed the NRM’s founding principles of unity, peace, and stability, pointing to sustained calm in regions that previously experienced conflict. Highlighting government priorities, President Museveni underscored the importance of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and presidential skilling hubs, saying these initiatives are restoring hope, promoting household income, and equipping young people with practical skills. He stressed that poverty eradication must be addressed at the homestead level. On security, the President warned against political extremism and acts of violence, emphasizing that peace in Uganda is safeguarded through collective responsibility by both security agencies and citizens. He reiterated his commitment to maintaining law, order, and national stability. The President also outlined plans to strengthen free education in government schools, improve healthcare service delivery, fight corruption decisively, and create jobs through agriculture, manufacturing, and private sector growth. He further emphasized regional integration, noting that Uganda’s economy benefits from access to the wider East African market. President Museveni confirmed that Uganda’s oil production is expected to commence this year, stating that revenues will be invested in long-term national infrastructure such as railways, roads, power stations, and science education, rather than short-term consumption. The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, congratulated the NRM family and urged leaders to remain faithful, united, and committed to national service. The Vice President, H.E. Jessica Alupo, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, and NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong also congratulated the President and praised the peaceful conduct of the elections. The meeting brought together members of the NRM Central Executive Committee, senior government officials, religious leaders, and party leadership as Uganda begins a new presidential term.
