Mit dem Wohnmobil zur Trauminsel Sardinien -Teil 3
Hello and welcome to the third part of our Sardinia trip. In this part, we first move from Valledoria to Sedini. Sedini is an Italian municipality with 1,334 inhabitants in the province of Sassari, Sardinia. The municipality is located about 34 kilometers east-northeast of Sassari. The Mediterranean Sea is about nine kilometers north. The Sedini necropolis is located within the municipality. These are rock tombs dating back to the 4th or 3rd millennium BC. They are easily accessible and unique. Over the past centuries, the character of this rock has changed from a cave tomb to a prison, stables, shops, and a party house. It is now owned by the municipality and serves as a museum. From Sedini, we took a detour to the village of Orgosolo. It is a municipality in the Sardinian province of Nuoro. A good 4,000 inhabitants live in this historic village. For decades, there have been repeated, violent feuds here. The crime rate was very high. Shattered and bullet-riddled town signs and doors testify to the lead-laden air. At times, the Italian government deployed special forces to tame the so-called bandit village. The village has since blossomed into a unique open-air gallery. The village is easily explored by tuk-tuk, and the ride passes everything you should see and know here. The wild ride continues, and we visit the ghost town of Gairo Vecchio. From October 14 to 19, 1951, a severe storm raged across Sardinia. Floods and mudslides were everywhere, dirt roads were washed out, and villages were inaccessible. And Gairo Vecchio was hit particularly hard. A massive mudslide buried a good half of the village. In the persistent rain, people tried to salvage what they could. The village opposite, Osini, also has a very similar story. After the storm, everyone decided to abandon the village and rebuild it in a safer location. However, no agreement could be reached on the best location – some wanted to stay, building just a little higher up the slope, others wanted to build on rockier ground – and still others wanted to leave completely, moving to the plain. So the village split into three new parts. Gairo Sant'Elena, now simply called Gairo, is the main village and is located just a little above Gairo Vecchio. Our next destination is a campsite near Orri. Orri Campsite borders a wide sandy beach. Whether you swim in the sea or take a dip in the pool is up to you. The pitches for tents, campervans, and caravans are in a quiet location. The site also offers wooden cabins, mobile homes, a restaurant, a pizzeria, a bar, a mini-market, table tennis/football, a mini-market, washing machines, a barbecue, and a bike rental. Of course, there are also clean sanitary facilities at the campsite. The cost - as of September 2022 - was €22 per day with the ACSI card. Everything looks clean. A small drawback, if you want to camp under the shade of trees, is the resinous residue on everything outside. However, these can be removed at home without leaving any residue. While swimming, we had an exciting encounter with sea monsters. But apparently, they weren't hungry and left us alone. We enjoyed the amenities of a campsite here for three days before heading back to more secluded areas... In the next part, we'll show you an option for wild camping right by the sea. Beautiful villages are also on the itinerary, and, as promised, we'll cover the costs. So check back and be surprised...
