"Jisuni Ja'man Anga Ja'rikgen":The Sacrifice of Nokseng and Hiis Family Golpo ||A'chik Golpo||

Description About 150 years ago, during the great revival in Wales, many missionaries traveled to northeast India to share the message of Jesus Christ. At that time, the region known as Assam was home to many tribes, including the Garo people, who were known as fierce headhunters. The arrival of the missionaries was not welcomed, but slowly, one man named Nokseng, along with his wife and two children, accepted the Christian faith. His faith soon inspired others in the village to follow Christ. However, the village chief, angered by this, gathered the people and demanded that Nokseng and his family publicly renounce their faith or face death. Filled with courage from the Holy Spirit, Nokseng declared, “I have decided to follow Jesus.” Furious, the chief ordered his archers to kill Nokseng’s two children. As their bodies fell to the ground, the chief again demanded that he deny his faith. Nokseng, still firm, replied, “Though no one joins me, still I will follow.” In anger, the chief had his wife killed too. Even then, facing death himself, Nokseng proclaimed his final words: “The cross before me, the world behind me. No turning back.” He too was shot dead. But their deaths sparked a miracle. The chief, moved by the unwavering faith of Nokseng and his family, began to question why they would die for a man named Jesus who lived far away, centuries ago. Realizing the depth of their faith, he declared, “I too belong to Jesus Christ.” With that confession, the whole village turned to Christ and became believers. From the last words of this Garo martyr, the hymn “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” was born. The words spread far beyond India, and the melody—known as “Assam”—was later arranged by William Jensen Reynolds in 1959, making the hymn one of the most beloved Christian songs worldwide. #garofolklore #garofolktale #garostory #garo #garofilm #jisunijamanangajaraikgen #ihavedecidedtofollowjesus
