In the 1940s and 1950s, the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad built their own riveted steel cabooses. The cars were constructed in the railroad’s Burnham shops in Denver, Colorado. That made the cars distinctive and unique to the Rio Grande. Many of these cars lasted into the 1990s after the Rio Grande-Southern Pacific merger. This HO scale model train is meant to be an accurate representation of the Rio Grande Riveted Steel caboose.
