While it doesn't climb any peaks, it more than makes up for it with tranquility, idyllic alpine scenery, and delicious food! Our starting point was the Schartegg parking lot (1,490 m) above Tschars/Tomberg. From there, we took a leisurely stroll along the forest road up to the Altalm (also known as Tomberg-Alm, 1,841 m) – a little gem on the northern slopes of the Vinschgau, tucked away in an idyllic forest clearing with views of the Sonnenberg mountain. There, we treated ourselves to a delicious lunch before continuing along the narrow alpine path to the Tablander Alm (1,751 m). Of course, we couldn't miss out on an authentic South Tyrolean Kaiserschmarren! Refreshed, we then hiked back to the Schartegg parking lot. 📍 Route: Schartegg parking lot → Altalm (Tomberg-Alm) → Tablander Alm → back to Schartegg parking lot ⛰️ Elevation gain: approx. 450 m 📏 Distance: approx. 8 km ⏱️ Hiking time: approx. 3 hours 🥾 Difficulty: easy, suitable for families 🍽️ Refreshments: Altalm & Tablander Alm (open from approx. May to October) Even though this tour isn't a summit hike, it really surprised us – the Altalm is a true hidden gem in the Vinschgau Valley, unknown to many. Perfect for a relaxed family outing with good food and a breathtaking mountain panorama of the Texel Group and the Ötztal Alps.
