Daily Life in China | How Wheat Is Harvested in Rural China

Isn’t wheat harvesting in rural China already mechanized? It is. But when the combine arrives, the family’s work is far from over. I’m Hanghang, from Jincheng in northern China. In this video, I follow my family’s wheat from the field to a local grain buyer. We wait in 95°F heat, deal with a broken combine, cut the corners the machine cannot reach, dry the grain, test its moisture, and finally sell it for 962 yuan, about $142 at the exchange rate used in this video. But 962 yuan is gross revenue, not profit. Seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, harvesting, bags, transportation, and months of work still have to be counted. This is only my family’s experience. It does not represent every rural household in China. But it shows why machines can make farming faster without replacing the people who manage the land, grain, transportation, and family decisions around it.
