Solo Camping in a Blue Mountains Crater!!!

Deep in the Blue Mountains and Wollemi National Park lies a hidden sandstone archway and a massive natural Amphitheatre that almost no one visits — and today, I set out solo to find them. What started as a simple day out after days of heavy Sydney rain quickly turned into a tough, wet, and unforgettable adventure. From spotting wallabies on the fire trail, to bush‑bashing through long‑lost tracks, to sliding down slimy sandstone and navigating cave systems, this trip had everything I love about remote Australian hiking. Along the way I explored ancient sandstone pagodas, listened to water trickling through the archway and pushed through steep climbs where there hasn’t been a path through here for years. By sunset, I reached an incredible sandstone Amphitheatre a giant crater carved out by floods over thousands of years. Camping here overnight in relentless rain turned into its own challenge, especially when my old tent started leaking. If you enjoy remote bushwalks, hidden geological wonders, and real‑world adventure challenges, this trip has it all — from rugged climbs to unexpected caves, wildlife encounters, and the raw beauty of the Blue Mountains.
