OUTBACK CAMPING ON THE PLENTY HIGHWAY + BOULIA & WINTON

We chose to start our outback adventure at Boulia QLD and point the bonnet west, taking on one of Australia's most iconic outback routes, the Plenty Highway on our way to Alice Springs NT. Out here, the destination is only part of the story. The real adventure lies in the kilometres between. Endless red dirt stretches to the horizon, bulldust holes appear without warning and sandy corrugations are daily challenges. Dust hangs in the air long after you've passed, a reminder that you're travelling through one of the most remote and untouched corners of the country. Each day ends with spectacular sunsets in some of the best bush camps in the Northern Territory outback. We spend a night at the legendary, Tobermorey Station, an iconic outback oasis where even in the middle of nowhere, you're never too far from a warm welcome and a great story. Another night is spent along the rim of a meteorite crater - a first for us! Travelling roads like the Plenty Highway reminds us that the best experiences are often found in the most random, remote places. It's not always comfortable, and it certainly isn't clean, but that's exactly what makes it unforgettable.
