The Doors - "Moonlight Drive" (Evolution Mix)

The evolution of The Doors' song "Moonlight Drive" from its original 1965 demo to its final 1967 album release. 0:00 - 1965 Studio Demo 0:26 - 1966 Outtake #1 1:01 - 1966 Outtake #2 1:39 - 1967 Album Release "Moonlight Drive" was one of the first songs Jim Morrison ever wrote and the first song The Doors ever recorded during a September 1965 demo session before Robby Krieger had even joined the band. It was also the first song Krieger ever played with the group, dazzling them with his bottleneck guitar playing. The Doors would record the song again during sessions for their debut album in August 1966, but they were ultimately dissatisfied with their results and shelved the song. It wasn't until sessions for their second album, Strange Days, in the spring of 1967 that they would re-record the song and finally release it in September 1967. Over the course of those two years, "Moonlight Drive" underwent a variety of changes in both instrumentation and tempo. This track mixes four variations of the song — the original 1965 studio demo, two 1966 session outtakes, and the final 1967 album release — illustrating just how much the song changed before becoming the classic we know today. --- Audio Restoration/Mix: [email protected] Contact me if you have any tapes, films, or photos related to Jim Morrison and The Doors.
