Evento: La Chipa de Oro 2019- TvAgro por Juan Gonzalo Angel

Twitter @juangangel In this episode of Field Work, we'll be in the municipality of La Pintada for the Chipa de Oro event. This event features a leather rope used by ranchers in cattle ranching, which is practiced here as a family sport. Participants demonstrate their skill and the rope's handling as they stop cattle without trampling them, performing the stop, restraint, and release in the shortest possible time. Vaquerías were unguarded cattle reserves, delimited by enclosed spaces formed by streams. This practice of hunting bulls and cows in open fields was common in the Río de la Plata region during the Spanish colonial period. Over time, the term "vaquería" came to refer to the permit granted by the authorities to hunt and later to the territory where that permit could be exercised. It is the immediate antecedent of the estancia, or ranch, of the Río de la Plata region. One of the most important cattle drives in the Banda Oriental (present-day Uruguay) was the Vaquería del Mar, located between the Cebollatí and Tacuarí river basins.
