SP, o Volkswagen mais bonito de todos os tempos – Canal Os Especialistas #57

Yes, it was a beautiful car. But it lacked something essential for a sports car: performance. The SP (short for Sport Prototype or Special Project or even São Paulo, the acronym for the city where the car was conceived) was created to compete with the Puma and become a technological showcase for VW in the 1970s. It was launched in two versions, the weaker SP1 and the slightly more powerful SP2, costing the equivalent of R$100,000 in today's currency. That was twice the price of the Beetle. The example in the video is part of Volkswagen do Brasil's collection (there are other SPs in museums in Europe and the USA). It's an SP1 with the interior of an SP2, but still very rare: only 88 examples were manufactured.
