April 6th was our wedding anniversary, so this time I've shared a realistic account of how Anthony and I met, our international marriage, and our life in New York. When people hear "international marriage," they often imagine a glamorous life abroad, but ours is nothing like that. (laughs) In fact, we had very little money and it was quite difficult at first. Completely opposite to my marriage views in Japan, which emphasized "conditions" and "stability," I married a poor New Yorker. But we encouraged each other, gradually improving our situation and slowly rebuilding our lives. There are cultural differences, differences in values, financial anxieties, and many other realities. However, meeting someone with whom I felt I could overcome anything is incredibly important to me now.
