Compare 1.375x24 TPI and M30 freewheel sizes on a BMX style flip-flop hub
Please subscribe! The only reason I'm asking is so I can get a custom YouTube URL - you need at least 100 subscribers... In this video, I compare standard freewheel size (1.37x24 TPI or 1.375 inch [1 3/8 inch] diameter with 24 Threads Per Inch) with the smaller M30 freewheel size, using a BMX-style flip-flop hub, which has 1.375x24 TPI threading on one side and M30 threading on the other side (also written as Metric 30 x 1mm). Standard size freewheels come in 16t and larger (17t, 18t, etc.). The smaller M30 size freewheels only come in 13t, 14t, and 15t. I've heard of 12t freewheels, but the only ones I've seen are junk. If anyone knows of a good quality 12t freewheel with M30 threading, please let me know. I mention in the video, there are other styles of flip-flop hubs, most notably a fixed-gear or fixie style flip-flop hub, which has a different purpose. If you want to see what they look like or how they are used, just search 'fixie flip-flop hub' and you will see they take a fixed gear cog on the big size, which is held on by a lock ring. *Note regarding the grease I put on the hub threads - I only put a little on for this video. If I was actually installing the freewheel for use, I would use a lot more grease. Those freewheels can be very difficult to remove if they get seized on the threads.
