Then scientists decided to build a large telescope and that is why they built the Event Horizon Telescope. The EHT is not a single telescope. It is an array of telescope from all over the world. Together, they act like a single large telescope. Then in 2019, astronomers were able to capture the very first direct image of a black hole. That was the image of a supermassive black hole located about 55 million light years away. But even though they were able to capture a black hole image which is about 55 millions light years away, scientists were not able to capture an image of the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy. But now, they finally did it! They were able to capture the image of Sagittarius A*, which is the name of the black hole at the center of our milky way galaxy.
