2023 Tweede Nuwe Jaar Cape Town Minstrels Street Parade 4K

Filmed on 2 January 2023 Thousands of people lined the streets of Cape Town to view the 2023 Cape Town Street Parade also known as the Tweede Nuwe Jaar Klopse parade. The parade is steeped in colonial history from the Malay slaves who were brought from the east by the Dutch and the British. The Malay slaves were given the day off on 2 January after serving and working for their colonial masters on New Year’s Day. It’s the first time an unrestricted parade was held since 2020, when Covid -19 lockdown restrictions were imposed by the South African government which effectively halted all public events and gatherings.
