In this video, I discuss the shocking revelations around the Public Investment Corporation, the PIC, and the billions of rand invested on behalf of government employees and pensioners. According to recent parliamentary answers, the PIC invested around R88 billion over the last 20 years and only grew it to roughly R98.8 billion, a return that looks disastrous when inflation, rand depreciation, and opportunity cost are taken into account. Even worse, some PIC investments appear to have produced absolutely nothing. One example discussed in this video is Amalooloo, a sanitation company that received R188 million, yet reportedly has a market value, total value, proceeds, and return of zero. This raises a serious question: is the South African government now turning to pension funds because every other tap has run dry? From BEE, corruption, tenders, state jobs, and the Madlanga Commission to failed development projects and government-linked enrichment schemes, South Africans need to understand what is happening to public money and why pension funds must remain sacred.
