North Yorkshire Moors Railway - 'Autumn Steam Gala' 23/09/2022

One of the major highlights of the gala season, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway held their 'Autumn Steam Gala' over the weekend of September 22nd - 25th, with a varied line up of visiting and home-fleet locomotives. In something of a homecoming, 4498 "Sir Nigel Gresley" made a welcome return to the Moors adorned by its wartime black livery. This would be the first time the locomotive had run over the NYMR since being withdrawn for overhaul 7 years prior in 2015. Joining the A4, 5MT - 73156 paid a visit from the Great Central Railway before it heads south to the Bluebell Railway for their gala in October. Finally, O2 Class - 85 would be visiting from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. With the one-day-wonder approach to the gala, the basic aim fell to capturing at least one shot of each locomotive in service on the day attended; preferably under power. On the day of filming, 85 would be rostered to work the demonstration freight service between Grosmont and Goathland, while various double-headers took place over the line length between Grosmont and Pickering. J27 - 65894 made a sole run over the Moors doubled with 92134, while 4MT - 76079 and Class 31 - 31128 worked the shuttle service between Grosmont and Whitby.
