I got an entry to UTA100 one week before the event and this is how it went!

Check out our podcast - https://open.spotify.com/episode/64hp... This was a fun one! I had no plans to run UTA this year but after speaking to some friends on the Saturday before the race, there was a ticket up for grabs (thanks Paul!) After a quick contemplation and considering the fact that I had hardly run since BYU a month ago, I decided to give it a crack! What could go wrong... To be completely transparent, this is not a 100km attempt off ZERO training, I had spent 6 months prepping for the backyard ultra (BYU) and was very confident to run 100k's for that event. Since then I had been recovering, taking it easy and doing a couple of 5-10km runs per week. I wasn't sure how much fitness I would have lost in the 5 weeks between events. I also had been doing all my BYU on the flat because the course had almost no hills. I hadn't done any stair or hill sessions for probably a year. I had so much fun for the first half, and then it started to get really hard. I don't think my mind was fully in it and I really struggled with the dark. I think if I had really tried, I could have shuffled/walked the last 20k's but that didn't feel worthwhile. I'm a big believer in challenging myself, pushing my limits and trying new things. But I also know my limits, understand when it might not make the most sense to push, and when to call it a day. So that's what I did (spoiler). Thanks to my dream team Zac & Lydia for everything they did for me all day, and for showing up with a few days notice. I couldn't do these things without them.
