Lying on the Nakasendo, an important route between Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto, Narai-Juku was one of the 69 post towns along the way, just before the steepest and most exhausting part of the route. Rich with history and also local handicraft, I made my way to the town in the Kiso valley, trying replace a Japanese item dear to my heart, but close to the end of its life.
