It happened in the summer of 1886, on a passenger ship he boarded to stow away to Borneo. Due to youthful indiscretion, he could no longer stay in Japan. That day, the ship was sailing from Hong Kong towards Singapore… ◆Author: Yumeno Kyusaku (January 4, 1889 – March 11, 1936) Japanese novelist and Zen monk. He majored in history at Keio University and was appointed a Second Lieutenant in the Army while still a student. After dropping out of university, he became a monk and trained in Nara and Kyoto, but returned to secular life after about two years and ran a farm. From then on, he also ventured into writing, leaving behind many essays, poems, tanka, children's stories, and horror novels. His novel *Dogra Magra*, which he spent ten years writing, is one of Japan's three greatest bizarre novels.
