How to Test a Dry Suit for Leaks - Easy and Reliable
How to test a dry suit for leaks? The steps are as following: 1. Important! Always turn the suit inside out. This way you'll be able to find the actual place where its leaking, because often the externals of the suit have additional layers of materials, which are there solely for protection. These layers may obscure the leak if tested without turning the suit inside out. Another reason for it is that the pressure applied to the dry suit during the dive, is from the outside in. So to reproduce this the suit should be turned inside out And the last reason in my opinion is that the p-valve and dump valve would release pressure out if inflating the suit from inside, which prevent you from properly testing this peaces of a dry suit. 2. make sure the dump valve in the fully opened position. This will allow to see if the dump valve is ok. If you see the leak from the dump valve itself, try first to remove it and soak and rinse in the warm water to dissolve salt and remove it from the membrane. 3. If you have a p-vavle make sure it in open position. fill all the tube of the p-vavle to see if any bubbles come from it I'm using the hand pump to inflate the suit, but you can use whatever source of compressed air you have at you disposal. It really depend on where you are testing your suit. If you are at the dive club, they have plenty half used scuba dive bottles, which you can use for example. The solution I use is a 2 litre of water with a couple dashes of dish or bath soap. Couple of dashes are really enough. To close the seals you can use the plastic cups, bottles of the required size and form or bungees.
