The Best Cast Iron Bacon Fried Green Beans (Even Our Toddler Loves Them!)
Sautéing some nice green beans with onion and bacon tonight! This is a one skillet meal that comes out great every time! I used to make this frequently and the recipe is very simple but the bacon can be omitted if desired. Watch along as everything comes together beautifully and we finish the dish with a malt vinegar reduction! This is the second time we made it LIVE and we really got the recipe perfected! Bacon Fried Green Beans Recipe: Cook half a regular package of bacon and cut into small pieces, cook till it renders down and bacon is almost starting to brown then add in onions. Reduce heat and cook until onion is becoming translucent but not completely. Add green beans to skillet and cook for 4-6 minutes. Add in about a tbsp minced garlic and fold into mixture for 2-3 minutes. Raise heat again and deglaze with chicken broth / stock and reduce. When liquid is almost evaporated, add in a small amount of oil and add Cajun seasoning or your preferred spices. Allow spices to activate in hot oil for 30 seconds or so and fold into mix. At this point, green beans should be tender. Add in a 2 tbsp or so of malt vinegar and reduce. Remove from heat and serve immediately. Green beans—also known as string beans or snap beans—are an incredibly popular and versatile vegetable. Despite being widely consumed, these crisp legumes hide some surprising secrets: Not just green: They can be yellow, purple, or speckled. Casserole history: The iconic American holiday side dish, Green Bean Casserole, was invented in 1955 by Dorcas Reilly, a home economist working at the Campbell Soup Company. The famous three: They are a core part of the "Three Sisters" planting method developed by Native Americans—beans were planted alongside corn and squash, as bean plants pull nitrogen from the air and enrich the soil for the corn. Space-faring: Green beans are capable of going on long journeys, with certain varieties having actually been grown in space!
