Stephanie Metz: Touchable Felted Wool Artworks & Community
An brief overview of creating and exhibiting touchable sculptures made of wool felt, by California Bay Area artist Stephanie Metz. Metz created the Hanging Pods and Holdables to focus on more of what she wanted in her life-- a sense of connection and a way to see the commonalities that unite us, despite our differences. Providing interactive touchable felt sculpture was a way to prompt a feeling of engagement, curiosity, and wonder in audiences. To create multiple large-scale artworks using a laborious and time-consuming process, Metz invited community members into her studio for "felting parties," which became a social practice in itself.
