First completely blind quarantine shopping adventure to the grocery store with Guide Dog Arabella!

As a completely blind individual who has been blind for over 12 years, I have made great efforts in my life to reclaim my freedom and independence. At the beginning of my journey in 2008, if someone told me I would be one day doing something like this, going on adventures, crossing major intersections, shopping at stores, only through the eyes of my guide dog, and my developed skills, I would have thought they were crazy Ha. I am truly so blessed and grateful for the life that I have today, in so many ways, I am living a more full and beautiful life completely blind than I ever did when I once had some usable eyesight. Before I lost my complete eyesight, I used to live more in fear. I of course still operate with a good fear, but I do not allow my fears to dictate my independence and freedom, or my fullness of life. In so many ways, my blindness has set me free to live with confidence and so much joy! I know this independence and freedom has been developed over many years, challenges, adventures, the journey, but I wouldn’t be who I am today without my first guiding angel, Antonia Hope, and my now guiding angel, Arabella Faith. As you notice in that last major intersection crossing, Arabella saved me from hitting a car. The car was turning right and did not yield for us as we were stepping out into the intersection. Thank God Arabella stopped me and pulled me back in that moment, I didn’t even know I came close to being hit because I could not hear the car or see it whatsoever. It wasn’t until I got home and showed my friend my footage that I found out the scary situation. But again, even now knowing what occurred in that intersection, I am not going to allow that fearful moment to keep me from crossing intersections in the future. I use every moment on my journey as a learning experience. I grow from each one, and become stronger, more independent, and confident with every step. Anyways, I hope my adventure is eye-opening to all of you. As you will see and hear through the video, I have many opportunities on my journey to meet wonderful amazing people who are more than willing to go out of their way to lend me a helping hand or eye. I am so grateful for all the assistance I receive, it gives me an opportunity to connect with individuals that otherwise I wouldn’t have the opportunity to if I wasn’t blind. Remember, it’s so easy to get down and discouraged if we are always focusing on the things we cannot do, and all the negativity in this world. Even though it’s challenging, I always say to set the eyes of your heart and mind on the positive things, things that bring you joy, and the things that celebrate your abilities.
