Weiler Matador Lathe – Norton Box Back to the Lathe & Pulley/Gear Drive Clutch Fixed - Part 15

Weiler Matador Lathe – Norton Box Back to the Lathe & Pulley/Gear Drive Clutch Fixed - Part 15 In Part 15 of the Weiler Matador restoration, the Norton gearbox is finally re‑installed on the lathe after the full rebuild completed in Part 14. But the most important work in this episode is the repair of the clutch selector — the bronze 3‑pin bushing that switches the Norton between pulley drive (for feeds) and gear drive (for threading and high‑torque operations). During the assembly I discovered that the old bronze bushing had been modified or remade in the past. Its three pins were too long, preventing the selector from disengaging properly. In this episode I reinstall the Norton box, replace both bearings (radial and axial), correct the clutch selector, and restore the proper pulley/gear drive operation. With the selector finally working as Weiler designed it, the lathe becomes smoother and significantly quieter. This is a key step in bringing the Weiler Matador back to full functionality. --- #WeilerMatador #LatheRestoration #NortonGearbox #ClutchSelector #PulleyDrive #GearDrive #Metalworking #Machining #VintageLathe #MachineRestoration For any questions or requests, or even just for a greeting, write me at: [email protected]
