Forth Bridges 3D project showreel
Digital documentation of the Forth Bridge, Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing was undertaken by the Centre for Digital Documentation and Visualisation LLP (a partnership between Historic Environment Scotland and The Glasgow School of Art) during 2015-2016. This followed on from an earlier pilot feasibility study in 2013, and involved innovative 3D laser scanning of each structure. This created a highly accurate 3D point cloud, from which it was possible to create a digital model of each bridge. The 3D point clouds can be used to help with conservation, learning and interpretation, remote access and virtual tourism, virtual health and safety and many other applications. This film gives an insight into the processes and results. The main project was funded by Transport Scotland, the earlier feasibility study having been funded jointly by Historic Scotland and Transport Scotland.
