How to Lay a Roman Mosaic | Part Two

What materials did the Romans use to create their beautiful mosaic designs? In the second episode of this three-part series, we follow a joint team from King's College London and the London School of Mosaic as they reconstruct the mosaic of our hypocaust room floor. The project was led by Giulia Vogrig, Lecturer in Mosaic Practice at LSoM, and Dr Will Wootton, Head of the Department of Classics at KCL. The team lived together in period accommodation for ten days, and all work was carried out on site. ▬ About Us ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Butser Ancient Farm is an open-air experimental archaeology museum and active research centre, learning about the past by recreating it.
