WILD GUNMAN: Resurrecting Nintendo's First Coin-Op on its 50th Anniversary
WHEN THE EYES FLASH ON THE SCREEN...SHOOT! Thanks for visiting. This is my journey to play Wild Gunman (1974) from Nintendo after getting my hands on some of the 16mm films used in the original machine. This video released in 2026 is 50 years after its North American release in 1976. I expect a ton of questions from this video, please put them in the comments below! I glossed over so many details of the history and my build to keep the video a reasonable length, and I'd love to share more. Follow me on Bluesky (@74xx.bsky.social) for some postings featuring objects and scans that didn't make it into the video over the next few weeks. If you want to contact me directly about this project, please email [email protected]. Come check out the game at Ontario PinFest, May 30-31 2026: https://www.pinballrom.com/ontario-pi... What should I do next? What do I do with the films themselves? I don't have a salt mine, but I do have a shelf with some road salt in my leaky garage, next to the acetone. Let me know in the comments. There are two classic Simpsons references in the video, did you find them? The kids today, they don't know the Simpsons refences. I assume everyone watching this video does. Can you list all the games and hardware in this video that Gunpei Yokoi designed or produced? There's a lot... Pat & Ian, Retronauts: Should you come across this video, thanks for all the podcasts and hope you enjoy this Nintendo history! Notice me Nintendo, I came to Japan last year but didn't manage to get tickets to the museum in Kyoto! Re-iterating Special thanks to Raf (@csw3k144) and Erik for their help on voiceover and generally putting up with me saying the words "Wild Gunman" 4,203 times in the past year, and to my wife and family. Note about the attract slide: There was a post on mameworld.info that had a photo of a projection of the attract slide, but then some time in the past few months mameworld.info went down, and I hadn't saved the image. Well, it just came back up a few days ago and I was able to view it again. I remembered enough to get the right gunman, but not the text or wacky cutout. It will be fixed in the future!
