Andrew Faltum, "The Supercarriers: The Forrestal and Kitty Hawk Classes," Eight Bells Book Lecture, Naval War College Museum, April 2, 2015. The USS Forrestal (CV 59) recently left Narragansett Bay on its final voyage. When she was commissioned in 1955 she was the first of the supercarriers that included Saratoga, Ranger, Independence, Kitty Hawk, Constellation, America, and John F. Kennedy. All of them were mainstays of the Cold War and saw extensive service around the world.
