Mara Cristina and her daughter Michelle Americo finally reunited after 43 years. The emotional reunion took place in São Paulo, their hometown. The story began in the 1980s, when Mara, at 19, became pregnant and faced difficulties. She trusted her godmother Cláudia – a false name for Claudenir – who took advantage of that trust to kidnap Michelle during a visit to Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. Since then, Mara searched tirelessly for her daughter, without success, until recently. Michelle grew up believing she was adopted due to her biological mother's financial difficulties and lived under the name registered by Claudenir and her husband. Michelle told the Domingo Espetacular news team that she was constantly abused by Claudenir and her husband. She says she grew up in a "loveless" home, and that's why she left home at the age of 13. The turning point came when Poliana, a volunteer who locates missing persons, found Michelle through information provided by Mara. The initial contact was made by phone, before the long-awaited reunion.
