Welcome to Christine's Diary! 🌿 In this episode, we begin another day on our farm in Portugal with a very important task: testing the water from the artesian well and also the water from the well that goes to the irrigation tank. Since we don't yet have mains water, we want to better understand the quality of the water on the farm and find out if it can be used at home, for bathing and perhaps even for drinking, depending on the test results. Right at the beginning of the video, we also found a bird's nest in the cellar. It was a very delicate scene, because it seemed like the little bird was protecting the nest and warning everyone not to get close. Afterwards, we went to see a festival in the nearby village, with music, tradition, and the Caldelas march. It's so lovely to start getting to know local life and the little festivals that happen around the farm. The following day, I'll show you a bit of our improvised routine: the portable air conditioner we brought from England, breakfast, things we're still adapting in the house, and also a trip to the E.Leclerc supermarket, where I found some French products that I love, including my Chavroux cheese. Later, we returned to the farm grounds to show you several new things and discoveries. We talked to a local who knows the land, the water springs, and the history of the farm well. He explained that a hole in the grounds might be a water spring, talked about the washerwomen's tank, the water coming from the wall, and another old tank that was probably used to treat the vines. We also found a snake inside a clogged tank, showed you the cleaning Rafael did around the orange trees, olive trees, and brambles, and talked about the granite posts buried around the land, which were probably used for the vines. The farm is full of mysteries, work, and hidden stories. Every person from the region who passes through here teaches us something new, and little by little we understand this place better.
