The Friendly Invasion

The 'Friendly Invasion' had a significant impact on the lives of both the American airmen who came over to Britain during World War Two, and the local people with whom they built special relationships. This film was created by young people working with The Garage and the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library in Norwich, under the guidance of professional filmmaker Peter Harmer, and tells the story of this truly remarkable period of local history through documentary interviews, archive film, photography and dramatic reconstruction. The film was created as part of the innovative Heritage Lottery Funded Norfolk's American Connections project, delivered by Norfolk County Council Cultural Services, 2nd Air Division Memorial Library, South Norfolk Council, The Garage and community partners, which celebrated 400 years of historical links between Norfolk and North America through a series of events from July to November 2012. The featured interviewees are Mike Bailey, Pat Everson, Dennis Kirkham, Malcolm Metcalf, Charles Walker (veteran 445th Bomb Group pilot).
