Title (EN): Presentation by Andrea Barrios in the Context of the Conference ‘Rule of Law, Human Rights and Persons Deprived of Liberty in El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua’ Title (ES): Presentación de Andrea Barrios en el marco de la Conferencia ‘Estado de derecho, derechos humanos y personas privadas de libertad en El Salvador, Guatemala y Nicaragua’ On 7–8 May 2026, the international conference “Rule of Law, Human Rights and Persons Deprived of Liberty in El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua” took place at Universidad Rafael Landívar in Guatemala City. Organised within the framework of the IMPACTUM project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), the conference brought together more than 40 participants and 36 experts, including academics, legal practitioners, journalists and human rights defenders. Over two days, participants attended eight panels and presentations addressing some of the most pressing human rights challenges in Central America, including political violence, arbitrary detention, criminalisation, exile, democratic erosion, mechanisms of control, the role of justice systems, states of exception, and the protection of persons deprived of liberty. In this video, Andrea Barrios, activist and defender of the human rights of women deprived of liberty in Guatemala, delivers her presentation entitled ‘Situación de las mujeres privadas de libertad y NNAPES —niñas, niños y adolescentes con referentes familiares privados de libertad— en Guatemala’, as part of Panel 6: ‘Desafíos actuales y escenarios futuros de los derechos humanos en Guatemala’. Her presentation reflects on the situation of women deprived of liberty and children and adolescents with family members deprived of liberty in Guatemala, with particular attention to gender-specific impacts, family separation, access to rights, institutional responses, and the protection of vulnerable groups affected by deprivation of liberty. The event was organised by Prof. Dr Clara Burbano Herrera, Director of Human Rights in Context, within the framework of the IMPACTUM project. 📍 Guatemala City, Guatemala 📅 7–8 May 2026 #HumanRights #RuleOfLaw #CentralAmerica #Guatemala #WomenDeprivedOfLiberty #ChildrenAndAdolescents #PersonsDeprivedOfLiberty #HumanRightsProtection #IMPACTUM #HumanRightsInContext
