Da 1431: The Mountaineer Train Tour - Summer 2024 (HD)

During Summer 2024, Steam Incorporated & Pounamu Tourism Group teamed up for another new heritage train experience in the South Island. Marketed as 'The Mountaineer', the train journey travels from Christchurch to Arthur's Pass over the Midland Line, known as the world famous TranzAlpine Express route. Da 1431, a 1957 built heritage diesel electric locomotive hauled a fleet of vintage wooden carriages on this epic journey into the Southern Alps. The train travels into the Waimakariri & Broken River gorges, which sees the excursion head through various tunnels & across high viaducts before venturing into true mountainous scenery. At Arthur's Pass, the Da is turned for the return trip home where the passengers get to experience the world class scenery once more.
