Ich ticke anders (ganze Sendung) - FENSTER ZUM SONNTAG Magazin, ALPHAVISION (AV 788)

Every person is unique. This applies not only to our appearance, but also to our thoughts and feelings. Yet some people have a particularly strong impression that they somehow "tick" differently than the majority of the population. For these people, science has introduced the term "neurodiverse." In contrast to "neurotypical" people, the brains of "neurodiverse" individuals function a little differently, without this constituting a pathological disorder. This includes, for example, people with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, as well as highly sensitive and gifted individuals. It is estimated that around a third of the people in Switzerland belong to one of these groups. For a long time, Dagmar Loosli didn't know what was wrong with her. Somehow, she was always different from others, but she couldn't explain why. She used to think she was stupid or lazy. She couldn't find a foothold in the regular job market. It wasn't until she had been married to Hansueli for a long time and suffered a mental breakdown that she received the diagnosis: Asperger's syndrome, a form of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Her daughter Anuschka was also diagnosed with Asperger's during a test. Today, the Looslis have learned to cope with their "difference" and focus on their strength: creativity. Dagmar and Anuschka, as well as Hansueli, paint, draw, do pottery, and transform old furniture into new works of art. Mirjam is highly gifted. She only realized this in her mid-twenties, after reading a newspaper article and getting tested. This realization helped Mirjam immensely to finally understand herself better. Today, for example, she understands that her depression-like feelings stemmed from a lack of challenge and boredom at work. During her school years, Mirjam was often labeled a swot, even though she never actually studied for her good grades. Because she wanted to belong, she deliberately started getting bad grades on her tests. Whether her children were also gifted was determined early on. Ben is 9 years old and gifted, and 11-year-old Hannah is partially gifted and highly sensitive. After several years in public school and various private schools, the two are now homeschooled, although Mirjam and her husband would have preferred a different solution. Did you enjoy this video?
