Rivington Terraced Gardens, see Roynton Cottage (The Bungalow) appear where it once stood.

One of three private gardens originally owned by William Hesketh Lever (of Lever Brothers, Unilever fame). The gardens were based around a central bungalow called Roynton Cottage, now demolished. Incorporating two large lawns each with summer houses and viewpoints, a Japanese and Italian lake, a lookout tower (now known as the Pigeon Tower), with a viewpoint and summer house, an orchestral lawn, Neptune's pond, undulating stepped walks and waterfalls, a seven arched bridge, the estate was intended as a weekend retreat! A castle ruins style folly was built down at Rivington reservoir purely to be viewed from the estate. Construction ceased when Lever died and it never reached completion.
