76 Fake Beaver Dams Were Placed in a Dying River — What the Beavers Did Next Is Incredible
Back in 2009, a team waded into a deteriorating river deep in the Oregon high desert and constructed seventy-six artificial beaver dams using nothing more than wooden posts and branches. Not a single beaver was brought in to occupy them. The river had carved itself into a deep, eroded channel — too hot to sustain its own fish population — and the few beavers already living within it had been fighting a losing battle for decades. The idea seems almost too straightforward to be effective. Plant the posts, then step aside and let nature do the rest. But what those beavers accomplished over the next four years was something no engineer could have predicted or anticipated. #BeaverDams #RiverRestoration #WildlifeConservation #OregonNature #NaturalEngineering #BeaverBehavior #EcosystemRecovery #WildlifeRehabilitation #NatureIsIncredible #EnvironmentalRestoration #RiverEcology #BeaversAtWork
